BRUWER WINS FEMALE RACE AND FINISHES 3RD OVERALL IN KEY WEST MARATHON, US
June 2006

Strong winds, choppy waters and thunder showers made for the most challenging condition in the event’s history. So difficult were the condition that only 39 of the 55 entrants finished the course. Topping the solo division were Marcos Diaz from the Dominican Republic with a time of 3:54:31. In second was Alaskan, James Barkman with a time of 4:37:50 and coming in third over all in the solo division was Carina Bruwer from South Africa at 4:39:15. MORE

CARINA CONQUERS FALSE BAY
26 February 2006

Carina Bruwer, Capetonian marathon swimmer, today swam the 35km across FasleBay successfully, becoming only the third person ever, and the first South African woman, to do so. She started from Rooi Els around 06:45, and walked ashore at Millers’ Point 10h58mins later.  More

 


BRUWER CROSSES THE ENGLISH CHANNEL

Carina Bruwer today became the 23 rd South African to successfully cross the English Channel, swimming the 36km from England to France in unpredictable conditions in a time of 12h03. More

 

CARINA WINS IN GREECE

CARINA BREAKS STRAIT OF GIBRALTAR WORLD RECORD
15 June 2005

Carina Bruwer today became the fastest female to swim across the Gibraltar Straits, from Tarifa Point in Spain to Morocco in Africa . She finished the 16km swim in 3h35, taking just 2 minutes off the previous record set by Indian swimmer MS Bula Chowdhury in 2000. More

 

CARINA SMASHES ROBBEN ISLAND RECORD ON FREEDOM DAY
27 April 2005

Carina Bruwer has, on South African Freedom Day, smashed the all-time record for swimming the 11km around Robben Island - a world heritage site and one of the greatest symbols of freedom and liberation. With the 11km, Carina and her crew celebrated the 11th anniversary of South Africa's Democracy. More

 

CARINA NOMINATED FOR COVETED KANNA
1 April 2005

Carina Bruwer's Classical Recital with Este Visser on piano was nominated for a coveted Kanna Awards at this year's Klein Karoo Arts Festival which took place in Oudtshoorn from 25 March until 2 April 2005. The award for best Classical production was eventually won by the Tygerberg Children's Choir. There were three nominations in a Category of about 40 productions. More

 

 

ICY WATERS FOILS FALSE BAY CROSSING ATTEMPT
17 March 2005

Carina Bruwer's attempt to cross False Bay - the country’s ultimate marathon swim and one of the most daunting in the world - was cut short by icy waters. After weeks of waiting for suitable conditions, Carina started the 35km swim at 7AM on Thursday 17 March, at Miller's Point. Despite flat seas, conditions proved to be unsuitable for this marathon attempt, as the water temperature remained around 14 and 15 degrees. More

 

PRESIDENTIAL PERFORMANCE AND ANOTHER SWIMMING RECORD FOR CARINA

Stellenbosch flautist Carina Bruwer arrived back in Cape Town today after on Friday becoming the first person to swim around both the Southern-most and Northern-most ends of Africa when she rounded Ras Angela in Tunisia in a marathon swim ending in Sport Nautique, Bizerte, after performing for Presidents Mbeki and Ben Ali and many ministers and dignitaries earlier the week.
