CARINA BRUWER NOMINATED FOR KANNA AWARD AT KLEIN KAROO NATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL
1 April 2005
Carina Bruwer's Classical Recital with Este Visser on piano was nominated for a coveted Kanna Awards at this year's Klein Karoo Arts Festival which took place in Oudtshoorn from 25 March until 2 April 2005. The award for best Classical production was eventually won by the Tygerberg Children's Choir. There were three nominations in a Category of about 40 productions. Despite Classical concerts being badly attended, Carina said she enjoyed the shows and will be back next year. "Maybe we can educate the South African audience and make Classical music more accessible by giving it a younger appearance."
The recital received great reviews, with her performance of Reinecke's "Undine Sonate" (a composition portraying the story of a water spirit searching for immortality) receiving special mention and standing ovations. Carina also presented a more contemporary show "Cosmopolitan Flute Spectacular" with Este Visser on violin and piano, and Jade "El Fuego" on flamenco guitar and vocals, presenting Gypsy music from over the world.
